His acclaimed works include "Sweeney Todd (1979)", "Into the Woods (1987)", he was a heir to Oscar Hammerstein, worked with Leonard Bernstein, and Jerome Robbins' choreography for "West Side Story", based on Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet", ran more than 700 performances, and 1961 film won 10 Oscars.

He was born in New York 1931, passed away at 91 years of age.  And he had seen the new "West Side Story".
